waiting for…
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010

Usually i don’t write post like this because of my english which i think is not bad but not properly good to write some personal expectations, idea or anything else about albums and/or similar things, so…..what i have to say? In the last months because of lack news (almost for Slum Village) i always got the feeling of an album a little bit lost in the fog, personally the lead single “Faster” is not very exciting, so i have the fear to find a disappointing album but nevertheless i’m really waiting “Villa Manifesto”!
okayplayer posted a good review of a private listening some days ago, i think is not bad so: http://www.okayplayer.com/stories/music/track-by-track,-slum-village%92s-villa-manifesto-2010070611112/

Dam-Funk “Hood Pass Intact” featuring MC Eiht
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010

We’ve got a 12-inch maxi single & video for Dam-Funk’s “Hood Pass Intact” coming up late in the summer. DF will be joined on the vocal mix of the standout track from his Toeachizown 5-LP set by West Coast legend MC Eiht, marking their first collaboration in nearly a decade. Most people remember MC Eiht as the lead member of the group Comptons Most Wanted, or for his infamous MC battle with DJ Quik, or for his unforgettable role in the film ‘Menace 2 Society’ … but only the left coasters know and respect him as the originator of the phrase “Gyeah”, which has been bitten and jacked by every MC and rapper on the planet, including Jay Z.
Hood Pass Intact 12″ also features the vocals of Steve Arrington on the track “4 My Homies”. Arrington is best known as the lead singer of the group SLAVE during the Dayton funk outfit’s most popular period, lending his voice to classics such as “Watching You” and “Just a Touch of Love.” “4 My Homies” is the initial project from the team of Arrington and DaM-FunK, and a precursor to their forthcoming full-length on Stones Throw.
Rounding out the four-track Hood Pass Intact are contributions from Devonwho on the instrumental re-edit of Toeachizown’s “Come On Outside” and JT Donaldson and TK co-producing the non-album single “How It Be Between U & Me?”
All music produced, written, and performed by Dam-Funk.

today i received an email from Emi Music, yes (www.emimusic.com)
they asking me to remove some material, Gang Starr albums, Digable Planets albums an one song of Beastie Boys and Gorillaz, i removed all immediately, they are the giant of music industries and i’m a 22 years old guy from a tiny town of Italy, is like David versus Goliath.
the funny things is that they reported urls with non valid links, so impossible to download anything, they reported external links that i found via google, the posts are really old (October 2009) and they reported a link to “Gilles Peterson Worldwide show” which is available from BBC official site.
1) not my upload
2) all links are external and i didn’t upload anything
3) the urls reported contains just a cover, a tracklist and a non valid link since 2009 (1 years ago)
I Removed any links to Emi material and in future i will not post, also if FREE MATERIAL or NEWS MATERIAL, of Emi Music.
altra cosa:
IO SONO ITALIANO E PERMETTETEMI DI INSERIRE RINGRAZIANDO My Favourite Sound, QUALCHE INFORMAZIONE RIGUARDANTE LA SITUAZIONE ITALIANA:

Katzuma.org – Moonbooty
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2005, Funk

Katzuma is Chico MD and Tony T mixing samples as they were live instruments and viceversa. We bring to life some original compositions that you’d expect to find in a dusty 12″ rare vinyl. Made three cds “Moonbooty” (2005) “Rituals Of Life” (2008) “DR.Know” (2010) and played hundreds of djsets all over Italy. In 2007 Benn invited to collaborate with Italian 70 Soundtracks composer Franco Micalizzi, doing the musical arrangements for the incredible show-event “Gli Originali” (myspace.com/glioriginali). Katzuma’s tracks have been used for commercial spots and tv shows and as a chant to invoke the troubled spirit of El Chupacabra. We like Cedrata Tassoini and are grateful to the fine signers, musicians, and graphic designers who helped us along the way. Keep on steppin!

The Cinematic Orchestra is a British jazz and electronic outfit, created in the late 1990s by Jason Swinscoe. The band is signed to Ninja Tune independent record label. In addition to Swinscoe, the band includes PC (former DJ Food member Patrick Carpenter) on turntables, Luke Flowers (drums), Tom Chant (Saxophone), Nick Ramm (piano), Stuart McCallum (guitar) and Phil France (double bass). Former members include Jamie Coleman (trumpet), T. Daniel Howard (drums), Federico Ughi (drums) and Alex James (piano). The most recent addition to the band is Mancunian guitarist Stuart McCallum.
The Cinematic Orchestra’s sound, in both live and studio contexts, employs a live band which improvises along with a turntablist and electronic elements such as samples provided by Swinscoe. In their studio releases Swinscoe will often remix the live source material to produce a combination of live jazz improvisation with electronica, such that it is difficult to tell where the improvisation ends and the production begins.

Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter – 1 + 1
Posted by dOk | Filed under 1997, Jazz

Individually, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter’s careers have been among the most innovative and influential in jazz, and their collaborative efforts are considered some of their most important work. As early as their tenure in the legendary Miles Davis quintet of the 1960s the two have cultivated an unusually long-standing and fruitful musical relationship. On 1+1, Hancock and Shorter share their extraordinary musical talents in an intimate duo setting.
The rapport these two musicians have developed is apparent throughout this beautifully conceived album. Hancock’s piano colorations blend perfectly with the unsurpassed expressiveness and warmth of Shorter’s soprano saxophone. The ten compositions on 1+1 (nine of which were penned by Hancock and/or Shorter) provide an exceptional amount of freedom for the two improvisers. The performances are characterized by subdued, introspective explorations. Brief virtuosic flourishes are balanced by a dramatic use of space. Even the slightly funk-tinged “Hale-Bopp, Hip Hop” is a subtle performance with shifting meters and complex rhythmic underpinnings.

Ike Quebec – Heavy Soul
Posted by dOk | Filed under 1961, Jazz

By 1959, tenor saxophonist Ike Quebec was a long forgotten swing musician. That year, he reunited with Blue Note Records where he’s had some hits in the mid ’40s. The aptly titled “Heavy Soul”, his comeback album, proved a revelation to the jazz world. His big, vibrant tone, bluesy phrasing and magnificent heart-on-sleeve ballad work on this album secured his rightful place in jazz history. Among the gems on this album are “Acquitted”, “The Man I Love” and a powerful “Nature Boy” performed by just Quebec and bassist Milt Hinton.

Billy Higgins (October 11, 1936–May 3, 2001) was an American jazz drummer. He played mainly free jazz and hard bop.
Higgins played on Ornette Coleman’s first records, beginning in 1958. He then freelanced extensively with hard bop and other post-bop players, including Donald Byrd, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Milt Jackson, Jackie McLean, Pat Metheny, Hank Mobley, Thelonious Monk, Lee Morgan, David Murray, Art Pepper, Sonny Rollins, Mal Waldron, and Cedar Walton. He was one of the house drummers for Blue Note Records and played on dozens of Blue Note albums of the 60′s.
On a whole, he played on over 700 recordings, including recordings of rock and funk. He appeared as a jazz drummer in the 2001 movie Southlander.
In 1989, Higgins cofounded a cultural center, The World Stage, in Los Angeles to encourage and promote younger jazz musicians. It provides workshops in performance and writing, as well as concerts and recordings.
He was divorced from wife Mauricina Altier Higgins and had three sons, William, Joseph, and David, as well as a stepson Jody. His youngest son Benjamin resides in Los Angeles. He also had two daughters, Rickie Wade and Heidi. He died of liver disease and liver failure brought on by hepatitis.
