Gil Scott-Heron (born April 1, 1949) is an American  poet, musician, and author  known primarily for his late 1970s and early 1980s work as a spoken word soul performer and his collaborative work with musician Brian Jackson. His collaborative efforts with Jackson featured a musical fusion of jazz, blues and soul music, as well as lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time, delivered in both rapping and melismatic vocal styles by Scott-Heron. The music of these albums, most notably Pieces of a Man and Winter in America in the early 1970s, influenced and helped engender later African-American music genres such as hip hop and neo soul. Scott-Heron’s recording work is often associated with black militant activism and has received much critical acclaim for one of his most well-known compositions “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”. On his influence, Allmusic  wrote “Scott-Heron’s unique proto-rap style influenced a generation of hip-hop artists”.

Luther Vandross Albums!

Rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, Luther Vandross came on the music scene in 1975, singing back-up for David Bowie, and co-writing his hit single, “Fame.” Going on to sing back-up for several other popular singers, Vandross released his own album, “Never Too Much,” in 1981, and it immediately went to the top of the R&B charts. Each of his next five albums sold more than a million copies, and Vandross won his first Grammy  Award in 1990, for best R&B male vocal performance. He went on to record many more hit albums, and won several more Grammys.Born in New York in 1951, Vandross began his career writing and performing jingles for television commercials.

In April, 2003, Vandross suffered a stroke that left him in a coma for nearly two months. In June, he came out of the coma, and a week later his final album, Dance With My Father, was released, debuting at number one on the pop charts. The album won four Grammys, including Song of the Year for the title song.

Never having fully recovered from the stroke, and suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, Vandross died in July 2005.

Justice System’s history begins at Woodland High School in Greenburgh, New York, where in 1990 rappers John “Jahbaz” Dawson and Tom “Folex” Foley hooked up with longtime friends Chris “Wizard C. Roc” Nordland and the brothers Alex (“Coz Boogie”) and Eric (“Eric G.”) Gopoian to form a band that, as Folex puts it, “would rely on real people making music and having something to say, and not hiding it behind DATs and samples.” A year later, multi-instrumentalist Alex “Mo’Better Al” Auld came on board to add some spice to the mix and help with demos.Rooftop Soundcheck was the group’s debut album in 1994. It wasn’t the first Hip Hop record to use live instruments, but it was the first Hip Hop record where all you got was live, original music.
