Truffaz has experimented with electronica-tinged dance music and ensemble improvisation, but on his 1997 major label debut Out Of A Dream, he channels the spirit and sound of Miles Davis. The way Truffaz delicately and economically phrases smatterings of thin warm notes begs comparison with Miles. But Truffaz doesn’t just play parrot here, he takes that classic sound and wraps it around a bunch of elegant tunes that you’d swear were laid down decades ago.

Neos – Indefinita Atmosfera

Neos was born in 1995 by the casual meeting between DJ Bruno Bolla and the saxophonist Gianni Bedori during a series of transmissions about jazz on Rai Stero 2. A friendship and an idea come to be: to create a group uniting their own experiences with those of Gerardo Frisina, passionate and qualified jazz expert and Luigi Bonafede refined pianist and session-man. This also marks the start of the extremely fruitful collaboration between Schema and Gerardo Frisina. Luigi conveyed indications for the choice of the other elements of the “Combo”. The collaboration features in fact two young musicians from Turin, Aldo Mella playing bass, and Enzo Zinnisi on drums, the Brazilian percussionist Gilson Silveira and the vocalists Barbara Casini and Rhonda Moore. The point was to create and propose a sound that was inspired by jazz, though at the same time allow to express the artists’ individuality, and as a group. In “Indefinita Atmosfera” there is a philosophy, exploration of the musical planet in all its tones touching the four cardinal points: North; East; West(Ovest) and South, sailing between melodies and rhythms. Individually, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter’s careers have been among the most innovative and influential in jazz, and their collaborative efforts are considered some of their most important work. As early as their tenure in the legendary Miles Davis quintet of the 1960s the two have cultivated an unusually long-standing and fruitful musical relationship. On 1+1, Hancock and Shorter share their extraordinary musical talents in an intimate duo setting.
The rapport these two musicians have developed is apparent throughout this beautifully conceived album. Hancock’s piano colorations blend perfectly with the unsurpassed expressiveness and warmth of Shorter’s soprano saxophone. The ten compositions on 1+1 (nine of which were penned by Hancock and/or Shorter) provide an exceptional amount of freedom for the two improvisers. The performances are characterized by subdued, introspective explorations. Brief virtuosic flourishes are balanced by a dramatic use of space. Even the slightly funk-tinged “Hale-Bopp, Hip Hop” is a subtle performance with shifting meters and complex rhythmic underpinnings.

DJ Cam (born Laurent Daumail in 1973) is a French DJ. His tunes are almost entirely a hybrid of both hip-hop and jazz music, and is presented in an abstract manner. Parisian hip-hop devotee Laurent Daumail is one of a few but growing number of French artists updating hip-hop for the chill-out crowd, drawing on the beats’n'samples groundwork of producers such as Rakim, DJ Premier, and Prince Paul and combining it with broad, impressionistic strokes of dub, jazz, and soundtrack-y ambience. Like countrymen the Mighty Bop and la Funk Mob, Cam is stylistically closest to Mo’Wax artists such as DJ Shadow and DJ Krush; minimalist, downbeat instrumental hip-hop built from obscure samples and stomp-box turntable accompaniment, bent and twisted into new, artfully arranged compositions.

Rhythm and blues singer and songwriter, Luther Vandross came on the music scene in 1975, singing back-up for David Bowie, and co-writing his hit single, “Fame.” Going on to sing back-up for several other popular singers, Vandross released his own album, “Never Too Much,” in 1981, and it immediately went to the top of the R&B charts. Each of his next five albums sold more than a million copies, and Vandross won his first Grammy Award in 1990, for best R&B male vocal performance. He went on to record many more hit albums, and won several more Grammys.Born in New York in 1951, Vandross began his career writing and performing jingles for television commercials.
In April, 2003, Vandross suffered a stroke that left him in a coma for nearly two months. In June, he came out of the coma, and a week later his final album, Dance With My Father, was released, debuting at number one on the pop charts. The album won four Grammys, including Song of the Year for the title song.
Never having fully recovered from the stroke, and suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, Vandross died in July 2005.

Paul Huston, better known by the stage name Prince Paul, is an American disc jockey and hip-hop record producer.
Beginning his career as a DJ for Stetsasonic, rapper and producer Prince Paul has lent his skills to albums by Boogie Down Productions, Gravediggaz, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, and 3rd Bass, among others. Paul’s big break came when he produced De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising album. Shattering the acknowledged rules of hip-hop production, he sampled not only funk, but all types of music to create fresh and original backing tracks. By throwing in comedy sketches as well, Prince Paul and De La Soul completely ushered in a new era for hip-hop. In 1994, Paul returned to rapping, joining RZA and Stetsasonic member Frukwan in Gravediggaz, a side project that debuted with 6 Feet Deep. He also began working with the new elite in underground rap, recruiting the Automator, New Kingdom’s Scott Harding, and Spectre for his debut solo album, 1997′s Psychoanalysis: What Is It? A Prince Among Thieves followed in 1999, and later that year Paul formed Handsome Boy Modeling School with the Automator to release the album So…How’s Your Girl?. His own Politics of the Business, another concept album that was more bitter than biting, surfaced in 2003 (a year after a second Handsome Boy Modeling School album), and was followed by 2005′s Itstrumental, as well as the archival compilation Hip Hop Gold Dust.

Looptroop Rockers is a hip hop group from Västerås, Sweden. The members are rappers Promoe (Mårten Edh), Supreme (Mathias Lundh-Isen) and DJ/Producer Embee (Magnus Bergkvist). In February 2007 rapper Cos.M.I.C (Tommy Isacsson), who had been a member of the group since 1993, decided to focus on designing and maintaining looptrooprockers.com and not to be an active member of the group. On their latest CD the group changed its name from Looptroop to Looptroop Rockers, a name they’ve used unofficially for some years prior to the change.
