Flying Lotus, (born Steven Ellison) is an experimental multi-genre music producer, disc jockey, and laptop musician from Winnetka, California. His debut album, 1983, was released on Plug Research Records in 2006. He is most famous (yet also uncredited) for much of the bumper music on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block, and he has also contributed remixes for fellow Plug Research artists, including Mia Doi Todd. His great-aunt is the late Alice Coltrane. He is affectionately referred to as FlyLo by fans and critics.

Enrico Rava – Italian Ballads

On this CD, the lyrical trumpeter Enrico Rava performs themes from Fellini movies, operas and classical music, along with three originals by band members. Despite its title, not all of the selections are taken at slower tempos, but there is an emphasis on memorable and haunting melodies. The results, which do not quite fit in as avant-garde or world music, are certainly jazz. Rava, guitarists Domenico Carliri and Roberto Cecchetto, and guest Richard Galliano on accordion get some individual improvisations, generally remaining within the mood of each piece while stretching its boundaries a bit. Barbara Casini’s occasional vocals in Italian are a strong asset, and she comes across much closer to a bossa nova singer than to an opera star. Definitely an intriguing set.

Shafiq Husayn – Mu-Roc:The Origins Of The Mind & Body Together As One

The master-teacher was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He is one third of Sa-Ra Creative Partners. Shafiq has an impressive resume. He has produced for a vast array of artists from Ice-T, Body Count, Lord Finesse, D.X.T., Afrika Bambaataa, Prince, Duran Duran, J5, Erykah Badu and Bilal. His depth in this music is uncomparable. From Cleveland to the South Bronx to Los Angeles, he makes a dent everywhere he goes. This mix sees him on fire at the house. Lots of different musics as you would expect from a Mochilla mix cut, and pasted together the way Shafiq does. From disco to post-punk to psychedelic to old school hiphop and that’s the first five minutes. Try to listen without getting up from the seat you are sittin in.

Ben Lamdin’s creations range from heavy funk, to hip-hop based beats mixed with dusty old jazz, obscuro funk and psych bits and pieces.
Nostalgia 77 aka Ben Lamdin first burst onto the scene with his heavy, new funk based sound in 2002. In 2004 he moved away from the distinctive raw funk of his previous singles and he branched out to explore a more downtempo and jazz infused style. Nostalgia’s sound moved to hip-hop based beats fused with dusty old jazz; obscuro funk and psych bits and pieces, repolishing and rearranging them for modern day headphone junkies.
The success of this composition lead Ben to a style he describes as “a combination of soul and jazz composition with computer based production techniques”. Coming from producing hip hop style beats he had always heard snippets of jazz tracks he loved, so the fuller musical expression of actually making his own jazz music was inevitable.
His cover version of Seven Nation Army with Alice Russell has also helped bring his “Jazz Jihad” mission to a wider audience!
Aiming for an edgy sound whilst continuing to search for a more personal expression, Nostalgia 77’s influences include free and spiritual jazz as well as 60’s funk and soul and Afro sounds.

Curtis Cross, (born August 14, 1983) better known as Black Milk, is a hip hop producer and MC from Detroit, Michigan.
In 2004, he formed B.R. Gunna, with Young RJ, and Fat Ray, and together they released Dirty District: Vol. 2, a follow up to a compilation released in 2001 by Slum Village, which he had contributed production to. Black Milk released a solo album, Sound of the City, Vol. 1, the following year and in 2006 he signed a record contract with Fat Beats Records (Fat Beats is currently distributed by Koch Entertainment, the largest independent distributor in the U.S.). In the fall of 2006, he released an EP, entitled Broken Wax. March 13, 2007 he released a second album, Popular Demand.[1]
In addition to Slum Village, Black Milk has worked with the likes of J Dilla, Elzhi, Phat Kat, Frank-N-Dank, Lloyd Banks, Canibus, and Pharoahe Monch, and handled most of the production on T3’s Olio mixtape of 2006.
In the Winter of 2007/2008 Black Milk paired with Aftermath recording artist Bishop Lamont to release a mixtape entitled Caltroit, which was nominated for Best Hip Hop Mixtape at Justo’s Mixtape Awards.
Black Milk released an album with Fat Ray entitled The Set Up on March 4, 2008 and his third official solo release “Tronic” on October 28, 2008. He also handled the majority of production on Elzhi’s album The Preface, released August 12.
Elzhi’s “The Leftovers Unmixedtape” was released on December 11, 2009. Black Milk produced four of the tracks on it.
On December 25, 2009, he has leaked the first single from his forthcoming album Album Of The Year, the song is called “Keep Going”.

The press release for Mr. Chop’s “Sounds from the Cave” promises a “fantastic planet of electic sounds”. It doesn’t happen very often, but in this instance the press release is spot-on. It’s down-tempo heaven, with hip-hop, jazz funk, electronica and more retro references than a Mike Myers movie. “Sounds from the Cave” is short and sweet. As an EP goes, it is small but perfectly formed.

Mr. Chop – Lightworlds EP

A funky blast of spacey instrumental genius from Coz Littler, aka Mr Chop — featuring drummer Malcolm Catto and others from fellow UK cosmic funk combo the Heliocentrics — on this incredible debut EP for the Now Again label! Mr Chop plays around with the tools used to create much of the groovy 60s & 70s pulp psychedelia, jazz and sound library funk — Moog, mellotron, fuzzy guitar, funky bass, vibes and drums — but what he does is far too gripping, moody and exciting to be classified as throwback genre fun. The atmosphere is nice and heavy, and the players are nothing short of masterful. Catto and Steve Barney are to be highly commended for the incredible drums on this thing, as are the rest of the players — while Mr Chop himself handles guitar, bass, percussion, mellotron, Minimoog and more. Now Again was set up largely as the obscure funk reissue side of the Stones Throw team, but they turned off the Wayback Machine and set course for the cosmos with the underrated, truly vital Out There LP by the Heliocentrics in 2007 and the Afrobeat peppered Karl Hector & the Malcouns album earlier this year — and with this EP by Mr Chop, we’re convinced that Egon & the rest at Now Again are slowing laying the groundwork for some of the most exciting undergound funk in this galaxy in the coming years. Amazing! Titles include “The Infinity Machine”, “Transhuman”, “Zoid”, “Conversations”, “Don’t Try To Think”, “Stark” and “Metropoli Del Ferro”.

Looptroop Rockers is a hip hop group from Västerås, Sweden. The members are rappers Promoe (Mårten Edh), Supreme (Mathias Lundh-Isen) and DJ/Producer Embee (Magnus Bergkvist). In February 2007 rapper Cos.M.I.C (Tommy Isacsson), who had been a member of the group since 1993, decided to focus on designing and maintaining looptrooprockers.com and not to be an active member of the group. On their latest CD the group changed its name from Looptroop to Looptroop Rockers, a name they’ve used unofficially for some years prior to the change.

Andwele Gardner (born February 14, 1978), better known by his stage name Dwele is a soul singer, songwriter and record producer from Detroit, Michigan.
Gardner was raised on the west side of Detroit in a musical family. He played piano from the age of six, later taking up trumpet, bass and guitar. He was deeply affected by the fatal shooting of his father outside his home when he was age ten, later stating “I learned to put my emotions into music; it was my therapy.”He cites Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Roy Ayers, Miles Davis, and Freddie Hubbard as favorite artists, and took inspiration from hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest, becoming an MC, and working with Slum Village. Gardner recorded a demo in his bedroom, called, The Rize, and sold it out of the trunk of his car. He had about 100 copies, which sold out within a week. He caught the ears of local heroes Slum Village and more specifically their world-renowned producer J Dilla.Slum Village invited Dwele to sing the hook of the song “Tainted” for their album Trinity (Past, Present and Future). It became an instant classic and led to more high profile work with female rapper Bahamadia, the all-star group Lucy Pearl and London’s New Sector Movement.[4] Dwele signed to Virgin Records in 2003, who released his debut album, Subject, which mixed neo soul and hip hop. In a 2005 review in The Independent, his style was summed up: “Dwele’s rooted in vintage soul but isn’t stuck in the past, overly reverential or an exercise in pastiche – there’s a major hip-hop edge which betrays his original incarnation as a rapper.” A second album, Some Kinda…, followed in 2005. He then later signed with RT Music Group and KOCH records in March, 2008.

Fat Jon the Ample Soul Physician (born on August 8th, 1969 as John Marshall) is an American hip hop producer from Cincinnati, Ohio and one of the four members of Five Deez, alongside Pase Rock, Sonic, and Kyle David. He is also credited with some of the music in the anime series Samurai Champloo. Unorthodox producer/rapper Fat Jon is not only the beat-maker for the underground hip-hop collective Five Deez but a member of the 3582 crew and a solo artist with a string of albums that flirt with electronica, downtempo, and dub sounds. Sometimes credited as Fat Jon the Ample Soul Physician, Jon started out as a rapper in his native Cincinnati. There weren’t many beat-makers on the local scene, so Jon learned how to make his own, working with a set of analog equipment that fit perfectly with his old school-loving, throwback style. The fundamentals of foundational Hip-Hop pulsate vibrantly through the veins of the multi-dimensional artist, John Robinson. US DJ and musician Mark Farina was born in Chicago in 1969. Farina started as a DJ, coming up at the same time as Derrick Carter with whom he would later work. His reputation as a DJ grew until he was headlining the Om Records global tour on the strength of the first of his Mushroom Jazz albums. Pete Philly & Perquisite is a hip hop duo from Amsterdam, The Netherlands consisting of Pieter “Pete Philly” Monzon (born May 28, 1980 in Aruba) as the MC/vocalist and Pieter “Perquisite” Perquin (born 1982 in Amsterdam) as the cellist, producer and composer of all the music.
