Rapohnelizenz – The Beat Tape Vol.1
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010

Here it is. Our first very own Beatcompilation.
When we started this about a year ago, living together in the same building, sharing the same passion for music, we were passing on links of the stuff we found online. It´s a bit like digging for wax – a lot of crap but then at the end of the box you find a beautiful piece of music.. So the next step was to share what you find on an bigger platform. While browsing the web and selecting everyday what stuff is worth promoting, we meet artists who catch our attention. we just wante more of their music. We invented this compilation as fans and asked our favorite underground producers to contribute.. We´re happy to deliver you a selection of mainly unreleased beats.

Mux Mool – Wax Rose Saturday EP
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010, Electronic

Mr Mool drops ‘Wax Rose Saturday’ from his well received ‘Skulltaste’ album backed with the exclusive ‘Valley Girls’ and remixes from Paul White, Free The Robots, Daso, Shigeto, and Devonwho. The title track sounds like a Prefuse 73 track circa ‘Vocal Studies’, while ‘Valley Girls’ is a more laidback display of R’n'B/IDM fusions. Attacking tracks from the album, Paul White gives a psych-spiked head nodders mix of ‘Wolf Tone Symphony’, while Devonwho gives a BoC-ish mix of ‘Lady Linda’ and Daso turns ‘Enceladus’ into a discofied electrohouse romp.

Kan Kick – Full-time Work, Part-time Pay
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010, Hip Hop

Kankick is a hip-hop producer from Oxnard, CA. The Kankick sound is dusty, crunchy and blunted, and just the right tempo to get the proper head nod going. He started out in the science of hip-hop beat making in 1988, as a freshman in high school when he hooked up with Madlib who was a sophomore at the time. Kankick later joined the Lootpack and became the 4th member. He has now split from them though and formed the Funk Farm, which also included DJ Babu (Dilated Peoples-Beat Junkies). Ayatollah – Live From The MPC 60
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010, Hip Hop, Instrumental

Live From The MPC 60 serves as a good starting point for fans of Ayatollah’s soulful production who haven’t explored his instrumental output. With 66 tracks totaling over 150 minutes of music, Live is the definitive Ayatollah instrumental collection, a dream come true for beat junkies. While most producers have swtiched to a computer-based setup, Tollah continues to churn out head-nodding concoctions on his vintage Akai MPC 60, saving each beat on an old-school floppy disc. Though he’s been perfecting his craft for over 15 years, Tollah doesn’t feel like his work is done. “I want to give more to the world,” he explains. “I’ve been sitting on a lot of material. I wanted to get it out at all costs.”

Andreya Triana – Lost Where I Belong
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010, Downtempo, Neo Soul

The widely hyped debut album from Ninja Tune’s latest rising star, Andreya Triana, Lost Where I Belong is a jazzy, noir-ish soul album that gives a full introduction to a vocal talent who’s previously worked with Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish and Mr Scruff, among others. The production and arrangements here ooze class (if, indeed, class can be a commodity that lends itself to the act of oozing) and that’s surely thanks to Bonobo’s Simon Green who man’s the controls on Lost Where I Belong. You may recall Triana gracing the latest Bonobo LP, supplying vocals to several tracks on the Black Sands tracklist, and the results on that occasion proved that these two certainly know how to bring the best out of one another. This time around, the musical accompaniment is considerably more subdued and organic, leaving Triana’s arresting vocal to take the central role. ‘Draw The Stars’ sets the scene with its ethereal plucked strings and woody rhythms, calling upon a flourish of orchestration when the moment comes. The remainder of the album is similarly well poised and resourceful, capturing a glazed over, downbeat feel that adds a little extra muscle and nuance to what might otherwise have come perilously close to a Morcheeba-esque exercise in trip-hop easy listening. Triana’s talents as a vocalist are what really come through clearest on this release though, and she proves suitably spellbinding whether she’s fronting uptempo, edgy soul numbers like ‘A Town Called Obsolete’ or the haunting chamber-folk of closer ‘X’.

Coultrain as Seymour Liberty – GodMustBeABoogieman
Posted by dOk | Filed under 2010

Born in St. Louis from a religious family, father is currently still a pastor in Batesville, Mississippi, mother is the choir director, both of whom gained insight & a clear path in which 2 explore my gifts. 1st experimentation with art was thru the visual: painting, drawing…then 2 the drums playing 4 the church choirs & school bands, while experimenting with singing and dancing..studied graphic design in college while starting groups & studied Shakespeare & poets, got more into writing…still writing my life.
This is a story with no beginnings and it has no end…this is the continuing story of Seymour Liberty, where once again adventure seduces and reveals herself, throwing Seymour in a circus of whirlwinds…planes, trains and automobiles. Where Seymour landed and ultimately explored,..well thats 1 part of this story that was never told, quite in usual fashion. Y U ask? Well, Seymour always fancied exaggerating his climbs and disasters, nonetheless, becuz they were fact 2 him, word was bond., But the details of this particular ride went unspoken, casting a mystery. U see the world had changed & every1 in it, yet, “everywhere u go, there U R, peakin thru the mask.” Wandering, trying 2 balance the heart and mind. But something happened out there, perhaps this something would only be riddled with commentary. But indeed something had been altered, shattered even, but put back 2gether oh so romantically. Nevertheless, whatever this something was, it had changed the man they all once knew. And as sad as it is romantic, “SHE” never left his thoughts, like a shadow following him around, probably weighing him down a bit, But remember, “no regrets.” & as he crossed the threshhold back 2 the city, full of temporary answers and fleeting hope, the cold skyscapers bathing in a purple drizzle, an electric thrill filled the air, silent bombs bursting everywhere. and he knew fate had wheeled (willed) him back n2 a corner, maybe bliss awaits, maybe despair,… another test.
Coultrain returns with a free EP, GodMustBeABoogieMan, 13 songs seperated into 3 movements, enjoy!
