Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie are a duo that the Soulection crew has been in tune with for years now. We figured that it would only make sense for us to reach out and collaborate on an EP. With so many beat makers in existence out there in the world, Jazzo & Melodiesinfonie stood out to us because their style and approach to making music is so diverse within every single track. The element that stands out most in their production is that every single track that they create has an average of 2-3 segments or breakdowns that create a new sound direction and vibe. It’s not so much that they are the first ones to ever do it, but they are one of the first ones to do it right and consistently. With that said, despite this EP consisting of 4 tracks, there is really 7-8 tracks total within due to their signature style of implementing multiple tracks within one.
Wasser means ‘Water’ in English. The reality is that everybody needs water, water is nature, water is real, it’s fresh and peaceful. All the tracks within this EP are very chill. We both love nature and this is where we find much of our inspiration. We worked on every track more than 6 hours, we sat together in the studio and drank Water, cause we’re both straight edge. We just live and want to spread love and nature.”

‘A week ago I downloaded fLako’s beattape ‘Leftovers’ with tracks he produced in 2008 and I felt so inspired by what I heard I managed to write four songs in like an hour. So I decided to do ‘Quattro’.
I call it an EP but it’s more like just one 8-minute song, an illustrated journey into the wild in four parts, combined with mixed sounds I was hearing at that time, both from close surroundings and in my imagination.
Quattro means ‘four’ in Italian, and all of the four songs are recorded in my home during the past week.’

Tensei – II EP

After the release of their EP One, Tensei, which consists of Chicago based musicians Simple X and Midas Wells, have released their second instrumental effort, Two on LA based label, Plug Research. Inspired by ‘70s soul, afro-funk, and themed soundtracks that recall espionage, Two builds from the experimental hip-hop inspired beats of One.
However, Two takes the groove deeper with its jazzy inflections, ethnic rhythms, cosmic electronics, and live instrumentation making it a bit more soulful and funkier. The one vocal track, “Think Twice,” which features multi-instrumentalist Khari Lemuel of TheOnes and Jae Franklin is an ode to the infectious soul classics of yesteryear with a modernized twist while “Passport,” which was featured on the Plug Research Compilation, is a an exquisite soundbed filled with lush pleasantries. And while this is Tensei’s second formal release, it still marks the beginning for the artists so journey with them as they continue on a path that pushes the limits and boundaries of hip hop inspired beat making and production to higher elevation.

We are proud to announce our 3rd installment of our Beat Submission Compilation, which features talented producers from all over the world sampling the vast catalog of Roy Ayers, as he is a proven inspiration to musicians, producers, dj’s and beat makers world wide. Since this is our 3rd compilation, and we have released the other two compilations exactly four months apart, that means that we have been doing our beat submissions process for an entire year! When we started the call for submissions, we knew we would get some great material, but who would have thought that we would have received enough material to release a different instrumental every week for over a year and counting? Not only have we had the blessing of exposing some great talents, we have also made some friends along the way, developing some great relationships with some of our participants. It has been a pleasure to be able to feature these producers’ great work, as well demonstrate the magnificence of Roy Ayers’ music and it’s ability to transcend cultures, languages, and nationalities. After two long play albums – “Translations” (2007) and “Unfold” (2008) – HipHop producer Samon Kawamura is back with his “Spur of the Moment” series; a collection of impromptu beats, whose essence lies in their spontaneity. In this series, Kawamura acts on impulse, capturing raw experiences and fleeting moments of inspiration and building beats which embody them; anything from a flash of insight whilst in the studio to encounters whilst travelling the world. In order to preserve these transient moments as quickly as possible Kawamura headed straight to the drawing board and created sounds – “Spur of the Moment” is the result. Unrehearsed and true to Kawamura’s roots. THAIMA is the first instalment of the series; 25 tracks inspired by vintage sounds from Thailand. Simply put, Kawamura has taken classics sounds from Bangkok’s street kitchens and infused them with his own HipHop flavours. Dinner is served.

We’ve admittedly stayed real low key since our label’s inception. Truth be told, all of us over here behind the scenes at HW&W are just a bunch of lazy bastards. Now that we’re getting our shit together (sorta), here is the 1st of many HW&W compilations and this one is for free too! Not because we wanted to do something for the fans but because we didn’t think any of you would buy it. But really tho, we just thought we’d do this cuz without all of you rocking with Huh What & Where, none of this would be happening. Big ups to Juj for giving us his worst track he’s made recently and great thanks to Mike Gao for forgetting to send us a replacement for his track cuz he wanted to save this one for his album. Also special thanks to Papa Joe for allowing Sango, Koen, & Tek.lun to appear on this compilation, but most of all for his unquestioned dedication to #oceanswag. On a more somber note, we have a major beef going on between Elaquent and Ta-ku right now. Lives have been lost, triangles have been drawn…I just hope this serves as a way of bringing you guys closer and ending the violence.
