Indie soul siren and American Idol vocalist Sy Smith serves up a slice of 70′s soul on the breezy “Greatest Weapon Of All Time,” and Lady Alma, a Philly veteran and stalwart of the UK house scene, takes it to the dance floor on the frenetic “Free Your Mind.” The album’s lead single, “This Could Be The Night,” features Darien Brockington, Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Eric Roberson, and Rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother over a thumping two-step groove specifically intended for the ‘steppers’ of Zo’s native Detroit. Singer-rapper-musician Aloe Blacc first made a splash in the 1990s as part of the group Emanon with producer Exile. But since then, both have moved on, with Blacc taking to oddball hip-hop label Stones Throw. He worked heavily with brothers Oh No and Madlib to craft 2006′s Shine Through, which also marked Blacc’s proper debut. In the ensuing years, h caught the mainstream’s eye by providing the theme for HBO’s How to Make it in America. That track, “I Need a Dollar,” is also the lead single from his sophomore effort, Good Things, a blend of soul and funk with production from Truth & Soul and help from the Expressions and El Michels Affair.

Each of his next five albums sold more than a million copies, and Vandross won his first Grammy  Award in 1990, for best R&B male vocal performance. He went on to record many more hit albums, and won several more Grammys.Born in New York in 1951, Vandross began his career writing and performing jingles for television commercials.

In April, 2003, Vandross suffered a stroke that left him in a coma for nearly two months. In June, he came out of the coma, and a week later his final album, Dance With My Father, was released, debuting at number one on the pop charts. The album won four Grammys, including Song of the Year for the title song.

Never having fully recovered from the stroke, and suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, Vandross died in July 2005.

Spacey soul from Coultrain — an up-and-coming singer from the St Louis scene, and one with a really unique sort of sound! The album’s a wonderful debut effort — far more mature and complex than you might expect, with a really cosmic feel that’s somewhere between 70s spacey soul and some of the more future-thinking work from the recent Detroit scene — yet all put together with a sense of timing and phrasing that’s clearly Coultrain’s own! Rhythms range from mellow and straightforward, to more complicated and angular — and Coultrain’s voice is often great enough on its own, but sometimes sounds even better with a bit of flanged-out production. Titles include “Green”, “Lilac Tree”, “Screw”, “Girl Of My Dreams”, “Swimmin In The Stars”, “Lost In Translation”, “Playin Catch Up”, “Self Pity”, “Who R U”, and “Endangered Species”.

I posted this when rappamelo was on blogger then it was lost when the blog was deleted, this is the album out in 2007 and probably during 2010 he will release his new album, enjoy!
